12:00pm - 1:00pm
The Auditorium - Lower Floor, Anzac Memorial. Entrance via Liverpool Street.
140 years ago this week a British regiment and support units were wiped out by an indigenous army in modern day KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The battlefield and the cairns, containing the remains of the British soldiers who died there, are protected by the Zulu traditional owners. The action is remembered today by the Royal Welsh and its affiliated units, including the Royal New South Wales Regiment.
To remember the action, Anzac Memorial Senior Historian and Curator Brad Manera will present a discussion on the weapons of the combatants, the interpretation of the battlefield, and draw some little known connections to Australia.
