An exhibition showcasing the work of Michelle Carr, a contemporary war widow and Sydney based emerging ceramic artist.
Entry is free
The Silent Reflections exhibition features the work of Michelle Carr, a contemporary war widow and Sydney based emerging ceramic artist.
In 2015, Michelle's husband Major Matthew Carr, passed away aged 38 years, after serving in the Australian Army for 19 years. At the time their son was two and their daughter was just three months old.
Ceramics provided Michelle with a new focus and sense of identity, allowing her to tap back into the rhythm of life to carry her family forward. Through her practice, Michelle explores the elements of grief, energy, and life.
Michelle’s beautiful delicate porcelain slip cast works include sculptural wall installations stained in symbolic colours arranged in circular patterns to suggest connections, growth, evolution, and change. Genie bottles that represent our hopes, wishes, dreams and desires. Spinning tops because life continues to spin us in different directions and some enchanting functional cups, and bowls.
Each piece on display is a delicate exploration of form, texture and emotion, influenced by her journey through grief and loss.
The exhibition is on display in our Shop on the Ground Floor. The Memorial is open every day, 9am to 5pm.
Connection
The Connection artwork is available to purchase for $5,000 – via direct donation to Sydney Legacy.
Connection is a precious gift. It is a one-of-a-kind artwork consisting of 49 handmade porcelain slip cast ivy leaf shapes, adorned with ceramic stains in seven enchanting hues meticulously tinted to delicate pastel shades. It is beautifully mounted on brushed satin gold acrylic and is 1m x 1m.
The delicate porcelain shape was originally inspired by a small Ivy leaf in nature. The small to large circular forms and geometric formations suggest growth, progress, evolution, and change.
Multiple slip cast components represent the people around us – family, friends, and the community. Our daily connections, each person is a part of our journey but also on their own path.
