HMAS Sydney and HMAS Melbourne proceed to the West Atlantic where they patrolled the West Indies and the east coast of North America for 18 months.

— 1944

The Australian Government approved sending Australian Women’s Army Service (AWAS) members overseas. AWAS members served in forward areas for the first time at Lae, New Guinea.
