The Memorial is located on the central north-south axis of Sydney's Hyde Park South. The original building has two levels centred round the principal ceremonial space, rising from the circular Hall of Silence on the ground floor to the impressive Hall of Memory on the upper floor. On the ground floor and wrapping round the Hall of Silence (where Sacrifice stands) are the Assembly Hall, offices and spaces used for retail and displays.
The subterranean Centenary Extension provides exhibition and education facilities. At its centre is the Hall of Service which draws from the spatial qualities of the spaces within the original Memorial building.
