Anzac Memorial closed for important heritage works - November 2017 until March 2018

As work progresses on the Anzac Memorial Centenary Project we have a rare opportunity to perform some important heritage conservation in the Memorial’s Hall of Memory. In the interest of visitor comfort and safety the Memorial will be closed 23 November until March 2018. .

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience. Our staff will have some limited presence on the Memorial’s northern forecourt during the closure. They will be happy to attend to visitor’s queries when on site.

1942 — Battle of KOEPANG. Japanese troops landed in Timor and met spirited resistance from the Australian troops. Faced with overwhelming odds, most of the Australians surrendered, while others joined forces with the 2/2nd Independent Company and waged a long and gruelling guerrilla campaign, with assistance of friendly Timorese, against the Japanese. The initial attack on Timor cost 84 Australian lives
